Opens New Office in Riverboat Marina
Discover
the Delta Foundation has opened
a new office and volunteer
center in the Riverboat Marina
on the Delta Loop.Located
in donated space next to Moore's
Riverboat Restaurant, the office
serves as a center of activity
for business, fundraising,
continued planning for the
Discover the Delta Information
Center and for recruiting new
supporters to the organization. It
also is a gathering place for
foundation contractors and
volunteers, who will be working
on a membership building campaign.
It
contains photographs,
architectural drawings, floor plans and
other information to provide an update
on the new center, which
will located at highways 12 and
160 just east of Rio
Vista. Visitors will also be able
to see examples and locations
of the “ENTERING
CALIFORNIA DELTA” signs
that are being erected
on state highway entrances
to the California Delta.
The
new location provides
visitors with interpretive displays
about the geologic history
and a wide range of issues
related to the California Delta.
In
addition, the office
houses the expanding supplies of Discover
the Delta Foundation
logo items that are made available as
membership premiums.
These include t-shirts, window stickers,
coffee cups and the popular "ENTERING
CALIFORNIA DELTA" signs
that are mounted on foam
boards.
Those
interested in the issues
are welcomed to drop in to the
center to meet with the
directors, consultants and volunteers
who work in the office.

Volunteers
Needed for New office
- Volunteers
are needed to help with work from the
new Discover the Delta Foundation office.
According
to Ken Scheidegger, President of the
Foundation, volunteers are particularly
needed to assist with providing information
about the foundation and California
Delta from the office. Scheidegger
said he would like to have a volunteer
available in the office seven days
per week.
Volunteers
are needed to help produce printed
material, get mailing packets ready,
contact businesses, prepare and deliver
follow up items, assist with a direct
mail campaign, enter names into the
computer database and more.
For
information or to become a volunteer,
contact the foundation office at 916-777-4442,
send an e-mail to info@discoverthedelta.org.
Use
Permit Issued
Discover
the Delta Foundation’s
Information Center is one permit
closer to becoming a reality.
Sacramento County issued a use
permit to begin work on the site
of the 7,728-square-foot, two
story center, which will be located
at highways 12 and 160 just east
of Rio Vista. The permit means
that the site has been approved
for the center and that the project
has cleared the environmental
review process. Prior to the
permit being issued, the foundation’s
project was deemed to have no
negative impact on the environment
under the provisions of the California
Environmental Quality Act. With
the permit in hand, grading and
fill material can be brought
in to build a pad for the site.
The foundation’s engineers
are doing the necessary work
to apply for a building permit.
It's
Not Us!
- Many
have wondered whether the frame of a
building at highways 12 and 160 is the
foundation’s
center. It’s not us. The frame
is for the produce market built on
the site.
